Book published in 1989 on the life and work of Alexey Brodovitch, the Russian graphic designer who was art director of Harpers Bazaar magazine between 1934 and 1958, who, influenced by  Bauhaus, Constructivism and Dadísm, revolutionized design. As art director of Harpers Bazaar, he was instrumental to obtaining the collaboration of artists such as Man Ray, Henri Cartier Bresson, Dali, Marc Chagall, Jean Cocteau and Raoul Dufy among many others. He was considered mentor to photographers Richard Avendon, Garry Winograd, Irving Penn and Hiro. Grundberg, the author of this book, was photography critic of the New York Times between 1981 and 1991 and later Director of the Ansel Adams Center for Photography in San Francisco.
